“Ha-ha! You fool! Can’t you see? No matter how many times you try to kill me I will always return to finish my destiny. You are just a reincarnation of the Hero of Light, but I am the real thing. All of my memories of countless millennia are intact. Yours are all but dust and ash. You are nothing!”

Link’s stern gaze showed no fear of his enemy, Ganondorf, king of all darkness and hatred.

“Maybe you should stop talking and pay a little bit of attention!”

The evil king turned to see Zelda, the Princess of Hyrule, standing with bow in hand and leading a shining arrow straight to his twisted heart. A clang sounded throughout the field as a shadow dropped in front of Ganondorf, the arrow falling to the soft earth.

“Onirinku!” Zelda said. “I… I thought you were-”

“It’ll take more than that to get rid of me, sweetheart!” Onirinku said as he charged towards the princess. Zelda pulled her sword out to block his unrelenting strikes. Block after block, Onirinku continued his assault until he finally knocked the beloved princess to the ground. Zelda scrambled back, trying to avoid his crushing blows. But soon he was on her, sword pointed to her throat.

Din.

A giant explosion erupted from the ground as Zelda thought that single word, a word of magic that sent most of her enemies running out of fear. But the attack was nothing to Onirinku, since he is comprised of nothing but dark magic and hate.

“Zelda!” Link said and charged forward to where she once laid.

“The princess is the least of your concerns right now boy,” said Ganondorf as he turned to Link, pointing his sword to him. Link unsheathed the Master Sword – the sword that is said to be the great evil’s bane – and the Hylian shield, entrusted to him by Zelda herself.

“Those toys will do nothing for you against the power of the Triforce!” Ganondorf said, slamming his sword into the dirt. Ganondorf held his hand to the sky and it shone with the power bestowed upon him by the three goddesses. “With the Triforce of Power, my might is unmatched! I have learned much about the Triforce in my lives and I have now truly harnessed its power and know what it is really capable of!”

A dark aura began to surround the king as the Triforce glowed even brighter. A deep growl erupted from his throat as his body began to change. Fur grew along his arms and his face lengthened, revealing mighty tusks. His body grew in size and his aura darkened and spread, covering all of Hyrule. He was no longer the evil king, Ganondorf, but now a manifestation of his twisted heart. He was now the demon known as Ganon.

Link raised his sword to the sky and asked for the blessing of the Sages. A bright glow of colors swept down from the heavens and into his blade. Link charged, knowing that this may be the last fight he could give for the people of Hyrule. Ganon ripped his sword from the ground and effortlessly blocked Link’s attack.

“This is it boy, the final test of that pathetic use of the Triforce given to you. Will you use it wisely for yourself? Or will you have to depend on other weaklings as you always have? Now is the chance for you to show that destiny may turn in your favor!” Ganon swept his blade down and roared into the sky.

Onirinku stood, the rain now pouring down on them all. Zelda stood and braced herself against her sword.

“When did you become so strong?” Zelda asked.

“When you tried to kill me. King Ganondorf broke the Triforce of Power, giving me a small sliver of it. The Triforce gave me new life and refreshed powers. I’ve never felt this good in my life!” Onirinku held his hands out and a small shard began to glow on his forehead. He charged so quickly that there was no time for Zelda to defend herself. He stabbed her in the shoulder, pinning her to the rock behind her.

“Now I can sacrifice myself to the great king of evil! And my power will be added to his and he’ll be unstoppable!”

“It won’t work, Onirinku!”

“Ah, but that’s where you’re wrong!” Oniriku shoved his hand against her throat. His eyes went white and the shard shone even brighter than ever. A scream erupted from his dark mouth and his body exploded into flames that reached to the heavens.

* * * * *

“Yaagh!” cried Link as he sliced through the air at the demon. He blocked an attack and strafed away from Ganon’s blade. Thoughts of Zelda raced through his mind as he noticed the explosion. He knew he couldn’t lose focus. That would just kill him and make her - no, he didn’t want to think it - it just wasn’t possible. Link had to finish the battle now or Ganon’s reign would continue for eternity. He ran. Link ran as hard and as fast as he could.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Ganon said and stomped after the young hero. Link swooped down and grabbed Zelda’s quiver, readying his bow. Link turned and fell to the soft ground, aiming his bow at the monster’s face. And just as the mighty Ganon swung his blade at Link -

Tuhwoo!

The golden arrow struck Ganon in the heart. Link rolled in order to escape the fall of the giant beast and sighed with great relief as he saw Ganon’s cold eyes glaze and dim. The hero looked around the great span of Hyrule field and saw in horror the destruction their battle had caused. A cold whisper interrupted his thoughts.

“Do… you… really think… this is the end?” The now returned Ganondorf stood to face Link, his eyes colder and more hateful than ever. “I told you… my knowledge of the Triforce… is unrivaled! If I die here tonight… you shall die as well! But I only wish I could have the privilege… of killing you myself. I will just have to deal with you dying… in a world unknown to you – a world that will bring you fear and a swirling chaos of hate… and a death that you have never been exposed to!”

Link knew that he could only wait for what Ganondorf would do next. If the goddesses were to spare him, they would do so know. But Link felt nothing but the bitter, wet wind glance across his cheek. Had he really been abandoned? Was this all the power his Triforce and the Sages could give him?

Goodbye… Zelda.

“This is the end, boy!” Ganondorf said and used the rest of his strength to open a void underneath the hero’s feet. “Feel despair! Feel fear! Feel HATRED!” Link was then sucked into the void. The last thing Link saw was Ganondorf falling to earth, taking his final breath.
Remember that fanfic I mentioned in my last deviation? Yeah, well, this is the prologue for it. Once again, stupid dA titles won't let me fit the word "prologue" in.... >_>

I like it so far, and I'm fairly proud of it. Hopefully this will do better than the other story I tried to post on dA, lol.

Alright, this is a story where, in my opinion, you can enjoy the story without knowing the background. But what's the fun in that? So for those of you who haven't played the games and aren't that knowledgeable of the world of Hyrule, here's some quick little notes that may help you understand my writing a bit:

- Link's a mute, so in the story... well... he's not gonna talk much.
- Hyrule was made by the three goddesses, Din (Fire/Power), Nayru (Water/Wisdom), and Farore (Earth/Courage). After creating Hyrule, they created the Sacred realm which houses the sacrament left by the goddesses: the Triforce. The Triforce is split into three parts: wisdom (left), power (top), and courage (right). Ganondorf normally tries to go after the Triforce and since his heart is unbalanced, the Triforce breaks and is split into its three parts.
- Zelda and Link ARE NOT BROTHER AND SISTER
- there are normally 3-4 humanoid races in Hyrule: The Hylians (what most people are), The Zoras (the fish people), the Gorons (the rock people), and sometimes there is a forest race, which has changed many times over the series. There have also been other races, but they're not as dominant in the series.
- If I think of anything else, I'll let ya know

This is probably all I'll write for now as I'm still deciding where I want to go with it...

edited it ^_^ just a bit after I got it back from the teach
